Tell your state legislators to co-author Rosie’s Law

Rosie’s Law would restore and expand health insurance coverage of abortion and contraception for Texans.

Representative Sheryl Cole and Senator Sarah Eckhardt have filed Rosie’s Law on the first day of bill filing for the first time ever! Rosie’s Law (HB XX, SB XX) is historic legislation that would increase Texan’s access to reproductive healthcare by restoring health insurance coverage of abortion care, expanding insurance coverage of contraceptive care, and ensuring that if you have insurance–whether it is government-funded or private–abortion and contraceptive care is free.

Rosie’s Law honors the life of Rosie Jimenez, a 27-year-old Chicana mother from the Rio Grande Valley who died because Medicaid would not cover her abortion. The year before her death, politicians passed the Hyde Amendment, which denies insurance coverage of abortion for people enrolled in Medicaid. For people like Rosie who are working to make ends meet, insurance bans can make it impossible to access abortion care. We remember Rosie as we  continue fighting on behalf of Texans who need abortions and the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare.

At a time when Texans’ reproductive rights are under attack, it is more important than ever to fight for policies like Rosie’s Law. We know that continuing to fight for bold, unapologetically pro-abortion policies will help us build a world where abortion is accessible for all. Tell your state legislators to show their commitment to restore and expand Texan’s access to abortion and contraceptive care by co-authoring Rosie’s Law.
